Martha Rosler. Housing is a Human Right, 1989
Homelessness is one of the loneliest experiences I've had so far. It comes with uncertainty and level a of embarrassment that even the most prideful person would buckle between. Yet, there's a resilience there that is unmatched. Your favorite celebrities know this feeling. Homelessness can make you into a stronger person if you allow yourself to let go of all your past ideals of yourself and society.

The stigma of homelessness is so disappointing.

There is hope for the brave souls who walk this path. Housing is a human right, and I wander if anyone understands that homelessness does not deprive you of your humanity. These are people practice humility as much as they cling to the fresh air of the promise that tomorrow brings.

Here are 6 therapeutic ways to cope with homelessness.

1. Wake up optimistic!
I know that sharing a room filled with people you don't know can be daunting but there's hope and opportunities seeking you each day. You've been given the greatest gift of life and with that you have the power to do anything you wish.

2. Find a friend.
Having a companion made my experience so much enriching and motivated me to change my current circumstances. No one can survive without the support of others. Friendliness is your biggest asset and so is your safety. Use your discretion, not everyone will have your best interest at heart.

3. Shower mediation.
Take your showers daily to ensure a level of normalcy and personal hygiene. While you're having your shower, try and visualize where you will like to be within a couple months. This is give you a time limit on your experience and motivate to seek your vision. Most importantly, relax! This is a stressful time and you deserve to have some personal peace.

4. In relation to number 3.
Try to maintain good body odor and personal hygiene. I know that this is survival mode but it does not mean that you throw out all those lessons mom and dad taught you. Especially if you're job hunting! This will create a less awkward experience for you and those you come in contact with.

5. Stay hydrated and eat!
Water is life and the keep to your survival. If you can't find a meal or if you haven't applied for federal food stamps this is your time to do so. Food but more so healthy fruits will refuel your body and raise your energy levels. Fast food often makes us sluggish and there's no time for that when you're fighting for your life.

6. Believe in yourself and never give up. Ever.
You are a wonderful human being that has something to offer the world around you that no one else can. That kind of rarity is hard to find. If you are prone to suicidal, you should seek help from a professional but more so you should breathe deeply and consider what would happen if you did. Don't succumb to negative thoughts or pressures from society. This is your bounce back story. You're special and you should know that this period isn't the end, its the beginning.
